This is Abby.

She is an outside dog and we all live in the country.

She is a wonderful family dog and is so funny when we come home.

She takes her job of guarding the place so seriously, it is comical to watch. If she has been napping when we pull in the drive, she goes on the alert, intently watching the backyard and often runs out there to chase away an imaginary intruder.

It is if she is saying, "I am always on the job!" When we pull out of the driveway to leave she runs out to watch the road ahead of us. It reminds of what a dog on a wagon train might do.

When we all pack the car and go on vacation, she seems to know and gets the saddest expression.

We let about 14 hens run loose in the yard and she keeps the coons and 'possums away and does not bother them herself.

It will take some retraining on our part, and her taste buds, but it will be worth it for our precious friend to feel good and live longer.
